Natural Wonders of the Alleghany Highlands
Hayslett To Present Program At The CF Library

Clifton Forge, VA (Nov. 19, 2018) - The Clifton Forge Public Library cordially invites the public to attend the program, “Natural Wonders of the Alleghany Highlands,” presented by Michael Hayslett. It will be held on Tuesday, November 27, in the Michael Armstrong Community Room of the Library. It will begin at 6:00 p.m.

“Autumn is an ideal time,” Mr. Hayslett says, “to enjoy and consider the beauty of our mountains in the western Highlands region of Virginia.” A local field biologist, master naturalist, and educator, his program will include a slide show that “focuses on the fascinating natural features, flora, and fauna that make our area beloved by outdoor recreation and nature enthusiasts alike.” The program will also include the region’s wildlife and geology.

“This lively armchair hike of the nature of our region through the seasons will feature images, photography, and information about the natural wonders of Alleghany and surrounding counties,” he says, with a “special emphasis on natural wonders.”

The program will conclude with a time for questions and comments from the audience.

After pursuing an advanced education, Mr. Hayslett’s 30-plus year career included working as a wildlife biologist, park ranger, wetlands consultant, and college instructor. Upon returning to his hometown of Clifton Forge in 2014, he served as Assistant Professor of Biology at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

Mr. Hayslett remains actively involved in natural resources conservation, research, and the natural history of our area through volunteering with the Alleghany Highlands Master Naturalists, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, and the Clifton Forge Parks & Trails Committee; as well as part time employment through Douthat State Park, the U.S. Forest Service, and his private consulting firm, Virginia Vernal Pools, LLC.

He continues to explore the natural world and enjoys sharing that passion with others.

Light refreshments will be provided following Mr. Hayslett’s program.

The Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
