Salvation Army Christmas Store Opens

Covington, VA (Nov. 29, 2018) - The Salvation Army of Covington helps the community deck the halls with the opening of their Christmas Store on Saturday, November 17. The new store, an extension of the Family Thrift Store, is located at 128R, N Maple Avenue, at the rear of the offices of the Virginian Review on the site previously occupied by the Bargain Barn.

During the holiday season, it will feature thousands of Christmas decorations, some new and some of rare vintage, all priced at bargain prices. The large selection of Christmas finery comes from generous donations from the community. Profits benefit The Salvation Army’s charitable work. The store is open 10:00 am. to 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays; 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; and is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Volunteers are needed to assist in both the Christmas Store and the Family Thrift Store, 149 N. Maple in Covington. Help is needed to sort donated items, stock shelves, tag items, and minor restoration. Volunteers are asked to commit to a regular weekly schedule.

Apply to volunteer today by calling Major Roxanne Feinauer at 540-962-6206 or contact her at roxanne.feinauer@uss.salvationarmy.org. Applicants will be asked to complete a background check.

The Family Thrift Store financially supports The Salvation Army’s charitable work in Covington and the surrounding counties, including its Christmas work, its summer camps, work with youth, and provision of basic human necessities. The Salvation Army in Covington is supported almost exclusively by local donations. Its services to the community are tailored to local needs.
