| Clifton Forge, VA (Dec. 11, 2018) - The following resolution was passed by the Clifton Forge Town Council unanimously at its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018:
RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF CARL DAVID BRINKLEY
WHEREAS, it is difficult for Clifton Forge Town Council to adequately express, in words, the loss that is felt by the passing of its Mayor, Carl David Brinkley, and
WHEREAS, Carl was recognized as a devoted member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, a committed family man, and a tireless servant-leader for the Town of Clifton Forge, but he will probably be best remembered as a conversationalist and story-teller, and
WHEREAS, those traits suited Carl in his 42-year career as a postman and postmaster when as a carrier he would make a point of always delivering the mail with a smile and word of encouragement knowing that he was often the only person that those on his route would see that day, and
WHEREAS, after his retirement from the Postal Service Carl worked in real estate and dedicated himself to serving the citizens of Clifton Forge as councilman and Mayor, and
WHEREAS, Carl’s approach to governing was based on thoughtful assessment; identification of reasonable alternatives; and then a commitment to the best solution that would benefit the most Clifton Forge citizens while still advancing the long-term goals as approved by the entire Council, and
WHEREAS, while Carl was truly focused on Clifton Forge and protective of its citizens, he also realized the advantages of working with the neighboring governments in the Alleghany Highlands and supported co-operative agreements that would benefit the entire region, and
WHEREAS, Carl was also known for his no-nonsense, stand your ground personality that made him an excellent negotiator but at the same time he also had the ability to recognize, consider, and evaluate opposing views when resolving issues.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by Clifton Forge Town Council that it hereby gives public Notice of its honor and respect for the lifelong contributions, service, and achievements of Carl David Brinkley to the citizens of Clifton Forge and to the people of the Alleghany Highlands, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE TOWN OF CLIFTON FORGE extends its most sincere condolences and sympathy to “Jenny” and the family and friends of Carl David Brinkley. He will be missed by all.
