Alexa Rose Trio At Masonic Theatre, Jan. 26th

Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 14, 2019) - The Alexa Rose Trio will perform on the stage of the John E Hillert auditorium on Saturday, January 26 at 7:30 pm. Tickets: Main Orchestra: $20; Rear Orchestra and Front Balcony: $17; Rear Balcony: $15; Box Seats: $30.

The last time Alexa Rose, who has roots in the Alleghany Highlands, performed for the Masonic Theatre Complex was when John Hillert invited her and another local artist, Magnolia Perdue, to perform on the Masonic Amphitheatre stage for the Amphitheatre’s first Open Mic OnStage Coffee House event, in April 2013.

Alexa was launching her first CD, “North” as part of the event. Now after many travels and success as a musical artist, she returns to perform at the Theatre with the Alexa Rose Trio.

Alexa Rose has the rare ability to find strikingly original melodies that nevertheless sound like they must have existed for a long time, stored away maybe in the ether of creativity, self-evident and awaiting discovery. Moving deftly between complex dexterity and heart-tugging familiarity, Rose achieves a sound that pushes gently alongside the bright vocal experimentalism of Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom while maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.

Rose spent her formative years curating original music in the Blue Ridge, including Covington, releasing two albums in her early twenties. You can often catch her sporting her dusty Frye boots in some southern lagoon, or on the regional radio stations that spin her latest full-length release, "Low and Lonesome." Written on a hand-me-down guitar from her mother, the title track is a toast to Rose's heritage, and its anthem-like chorus haunts the listener with a somberness evocative of Gillian Welch.

“I've been singing since I can remember.  I always felt making music was my niche, whether it was performing on a stage, writing a song, or sitting around with a group of friends strumming guitars and creating harmonies together.  It's something I love like nothing else in the world.  I always kept a busy schedule growing up, full of piano lessons and rehearsals for choirs and community theatre productions.  When I was 15, my uncle gave me his old guitar, and I started teaching myself chords.   After high school I studied music at VCU in Richmond for a year, where I would ride Amtrak back and forth between cities”, remarks Rose.

Tickets for the Alexa Rose Trio are available online at www.historicmasonictheatre.com, by calling the Theatre Box Office at 540 862 5655 or an the Theatre Ticket Booth prior to the performance.
