FEBRUARY 18, 2019

"The Alleghany County Public Schools deeply honors the trust and confidence of our families, employees and community. We have earned this trust and confidence because of our longstanding commitment to public transparency of our operations and finances and our responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Recently, there has been some discord voiced by one of our School Board members who alleges, among many things, fiscal irresponsibilities by the School Board. The School Board firmly agrees these allegations are unfounded and serve as a significant distraction from the mission of Alleghany County Public Schools, which is to work together to help our students achieve their highest potential.

"We want to assure our community that ACPS financial audit reports, which are annually conducted by an objective and highly qualified accounting firm, have not indicated any irregularities or cause for concern. As an additional assurance and verification, we will be posting the summary findings of our audit reports from the last three years on our website for public viewing https://www.alleghany.k12.va.us/home. We invite our families, employees and community to review them closely.

"We also stand by other decisions publicly questioned by this School Board member. Moreover, we welcome the scrutiny he has requested of higher officials as we are confident the Board has aligned our actions and decisions with our policies and regulations. These policies and regulations are published on our website and again, we invite our community to learn more by reviewing them. Here is the link to our policy manual https://www.alleghany.k12.va.us/school_board/Policy%20Manual.

Finally, it is our hope and belief that the School Board can resume its focus on its most important work – that of student achievement – as we continue to honor the trust and confidence of our community through the diligence and outstanding work of all our employees."

Sincerely,

Randall S. Tucker

Chairman, Alleghany County School Board
