JRTC Welding Student Finish 1st and 3rd

 
Dublin, VA (January 25, 2019) - On January 25th, welding students from Jackson River Technical Center traveled to New River Community College to compete in the 2019 SkillsUSA District Welding competition. Approximately 15 welding students were present from schools within the district which includes; Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Salem City, Floyd County, Giles County, Botetourt County, Pulaski County and Jackson River Technical Center.

The contest consisted of; submitting a resume, taking a written knowledge test, and building a project from blueprints that were provided. Students worked with all welding processes and were required to weld in various positions.

Earlier in the year Ryan, Jacob and Kyle Dunbar traveled to Giles County Technology Center and competed in the annual American Welding Society contest. At this event Jacob finished 3rd while Ryan and Kyle tied for 5th. Pictured from left to right are Ryan Whiting, Jacob Byer, and Kyle Dunbar.
