Brown Bag Book Club to Meet April 18

Clifton Forge, VA (April 2, 2019) - The Clifton Forge Public Library’s Brown Bag Book Club will meet on Thursday, April 18. The group will discuss “A Killing in the Hills,” by Julia Keller.

A tough prosecutor who is trying to make a difference in the lives of West Virginians suddenly finds her own life in shambles when she learns that her estranged teenaged daughter is one of the witnesses to a seemingly random brutal incident. Though shocked and horrified by what she saw, Carla recovers enough to believe that she might be uniquely placed to help her mother do her job and thereby begin to repair their fragile, damaged relationship.  Unaware that she may be doing more harm than good, Carla may in fact be putting her own life in danger.

“Kirkus Reviews” finds Keller’s fictional debut “a mystery that has plenty of twists and turns and a shocking conclusion."

Author Scott Turow calls Keller’s book “great reading” and describes it as “a gripping, beautifully-crafted murder mystery that shows that small-town West Virginia is no longer Mayberry."

“Booklist” hails it as “a page-turner with substance and depth . . . as suspenseful and entertaining as it is accomplished."

The Brown Bag Book Club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room.

New members are always welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend and to bring a lunch. Dessert will be provided.
