Community Book Drive Announced

Covington, VA (April 5, 2019) -

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”

     â€˘     Dr. Seuss

For reading enthusiasts and elementary children across the country, entering March by celebrating Dr. Suess’ birthday (March 2nd) is one of many ways to dress up and also celebrate the joy of learning to read. For the Alleghany Highlands Education First Literacy Group, March and April this year mark the launch of a spring community book drive. The group is collecting new or gently-used books and financial contributions to support participation in this year’s Bike Rodeo. Books will be distributed to children from the area who attend the event, and volunteers will read periodically during the event to children or provide a quiet and comfortable space for children and parents between biking events.

Over the next three weeks, please help find children’s books that you would like to pass along for another to read. Donations of books or contributions to support the purchase of books can be made at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library, The Alleghany Foundation and the Town of Clifton Forge office as well as our local schools. Checks can be written to the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library with the words “Book drive/AHELP” in the memo line and dropped off with the books or mailed to: Alleghany Highlands Regional Library, 406 W Riverside St, Covington, VA 24426.

“You can find magic, wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.”
