Updated: First Presbyterian Preschool: New for 2019-2020

 
Covington, VA (April 13, 2019) - First Presbyterian Church Preschool announces it will expand its innovative preschool program to participate in the University of Virginia’s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL)’s STREAMin3 curriculum pilot.

     STREAMin3 focuses on 5 Core Skills that form the building blocks for later learning and 6 STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math) Skills to prepare children for success in Kindergarten and beyond. All daily activities and routines are play-based and child-led with a focus on problem-solving, curiosity, active engagement and exploration.

      The teaching team remains the same with on-site assistant director, Denise Pillow, who plans and teaches along with lead teacher, Hannah Pillow.

     Martha Carter, who is employed as a teacher in the Covington school system, serves as oversight director from the church’s preschool advisory committee.

     Janice Campbell, musician and instructor who has provided many area children with quality music experiences, guides the preschool children in their exploration of music, rhythm and movement on a weekly basis.

     Dianne Garcia, a long-time educator in the area, brings “Manners are Fun”
 lessons on a regular basis.

     Each member of the team holds a BS degree in education

     A few spaces are available in the class that will meet Monday through Thursday mornings at First Presbyterian Church, 185 N. Maple Ave. in Covington.
