JRTC Students Do Well In Skills USA Competitions

 
Covington, VA (April 29, 2019) - (April 29, 2019) Jackson River Technical Center Students traveled to Virginia Beach on April 12th and 13th for the annual SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA Virginia is the student organization for students enrolled in career and technical occupations in Virginia’s high schools and community colleges.

JRTC student competitors included Morgan McClung, Nick Mann, Macyn Carter (carpentry); Ryan Whiting (welding); and Xavier Reid (culinary arts).

With 129 contests and over 200 competitors, JRTC students performed strong in their clusters. In high school welding, Ryan Whiting won the state gold medal (advisor, Jamie Huffman). In high school cabinet making, Macyn Carter won the state gold medal, and Nick Mann earned 3rd place (advisor, Jimmy Fridley).

Advisor, Jimmy Fridley said, “I am so very proud of each one of these students, as they handled themselves with class. We had so much fun, and I am thankful for the memories.â€

Jackson River Technical Center is the vocational education facility for Alleghany County. We have eight programs that are dedicated to developing workplace skills, personal skills, and technical skills grounded in academics.
