Buena Vista, VA (June 6, 2019) - The Practical Nursing students and the Culinary Arts students at the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista recently participated in a collaborative class under the direction of their two instructors, Laura Meadows and Ed McArdle, respectively. Through the class, students learned about the role of a multidisciplinary team in meeting the dietary needs of their clients. The nursing students explained to the culinary students why clients with different medical conditions might need a particular diet; conversely, the culinary students were able to illustrate how a gluten-free, high-protein, or diabetic diet might be suitable for particular client. Both Meadows and McArdle said the class was a successful, collaborative learning experience for both groups of students, because they were able to interact and share real world issues with ongoing learning exercises; they hope to teach similar classes in the future. For more information on the practical nursing and culinary arts programs, please call DSLCC Student Services at (540) 863-2820 or visit the website at www.dslcc.edu.
