'Give My Regards to Broadway'

Covington, VA (June 10, 2019) - Broadway will visit Music on the Corner at First Presbyterian when the church presents a concert featuring songs from a number of Broadway musicals on Monday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. The event is part of the church’s 200th Anniversary concert series.

The program will include “Memory” from Cats; “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables; “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof; “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” from The Sound of Music; “Hello, Young Lovers” from the King and I; selections from Phantom of the Opera, and many more.

Well-known area singers who will perform are Tammy Scruggs-Duncan and Anne Scruggs, sopranos; Susan Wood, alto; Ronnie Linkenhoker and Allan Tucker, baritones, accompanied by Sandra Minter, piano.

A church spokesperson commented, “This special concert will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy classic songs from Broadway’s beloved musicals, most from the 1950s to the present, but also earlier. The title song, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, by George M. Cohan, was first staged in 1904 in his show, Little Johnny Jones. Later the song was included in the 1968 musical George M! which is based on Cohan’s life.”

The concert is free and open to the public. Those attending are invited to bring boxed or canned food or a monetary gift to benefit local food pantries supported by the church.

First Presbyterian Church is located on the corner of Maple Avenue and Locust Street in downtown Covington. The accessible entrance is on Locust Street.
