CF 4th Of July Parade Set 11 A.M.
No Fireworks In CF This Year, But Covington Mayor Makes An Invitation...

Clifton Forge, VA (June 20, 2019) - The Stars and Stripes Celebration Committee of Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc., announces that word was received this past Saturday that the Fireworks Display Company that has provided our July 4th Show in recent years, closed their business Saturday, effective immediately. We have tried to find another Fireworks Display Company that can offer us a show for the weekend of July 4th, at this late date, but none are available. However, we want you to know that we will still have the excitement of a Fireworks Display here in the Alleghany Highlands on July 4th for you to enjoy. When he was informed of the unexpected cancellation of our fireworks show, Tom Sibold, Mayor of the City of Covington said, “On behalf of the citizens of Covington, I am sad to learn that the people of Clifton Forge have been deprived of their 2019 fireworks show and therefore, I invite all the people who would have attended the Clifton Forge fireworks show to join us in Covington at 9 p.m. at the Jackson River Sports Complex and enjoy the fireworks with us.” Mayor Sibold also wants everyone to know that the recent road construction is finished and Durant Road to Jackson Street has been completely reopened.

To clarify the daytime plan for our celebration here in Clifton Forge, The Stars and Stripes Celebration Parade will begin at 11 AM, July 4th, followed by a patriotic ceremony in the Historic Masonic Theatre Auditorium, to include a rousing speech by Patrick Henry and selected readings from the Declaration of Independence. In addition, area veterans and First Responders will be honored. During the ceremony, The Celebration Choir, under the direction of Dale Muterspaugh, will offer a program of flag-waving music. Between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm area nonprofit organizations will be offering, as a fundraiser, delicious foods at the SONA Bank Plaza for you to enjoy while watching the parade.

Mott Atherholt, this year’s chair for the 2019 Stars and Stripes Celebration said, “This unexpected change in our daylong celebration has been a shocking disappointment for our committee to deal with so close to July 4th, but we are determined to find a new fireworks display company for next year, just as soon as possible, so that in 2020 we can once again enjoy an evening of food, friends, and entertainment culminating in a breathtaking fireworks extravaganza here in Clifton Forge."

Meanwhile this year on the 4th, we can all still come together to celebrate the birth of our nation, cheering loudly as our parade rolls through the streets of Clifton Forge. After the parade, we can listen to the stirring words and music of our forefathers in The Historic Masonic Theatre. These words remind us of the achievements and sacrifices they made for our country; and we can join our neighbors and friends in nearby Covington as we Ohhh and Ahhh together, during the fireworks show”.
