Covington Hires New City Manager
Former Senior Advisor To Richmond's Mayor Worked As Public Works Administrative Project Analyst

Covington, VA (July 15, 2019) - The long search is over for a city manager in Covington. Just after 7 p.m. this evening, the Covington City Council voted unanimously to appoint Krystal M. Onaitis, as the city's top official.

Here is the city's news release in full:

"Mayor Thomas Sibold, Jr. today announced the appointment of Krystal M. Onaitis as Covington’s next city manager. Onaitis, a Virginia native most recently with the City of Richmond, was hired for her leadership experience in local government and creative approach to achieving new innovations within municipal government operations.

Onaitis led the government side of the public-private partnership in Richmond, with AvePoint, resulting in RVA311, the state-of-the-art online portal enabling citizens to engage government, lodge complaints and track their interactions online. She also served as a senior advisor to former Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones and managed special projects, policy, communications and performance initiatives in the city’s public works and public utilities departments as well.

Onaitis holds a B.A. in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

“Council was unanimous in its decision to hire Krystal,” said Mayor Sibold. “We like what she has to offer and we’re all looking forward to working with her in new and ongoing efforts to best serve our citizens and make Covington succeed.”

Onaitis will relocate from Richmond and start August 1st. “I am most grateful for this exciting opportunity to serve as Covington’s city manager,” said Onaitis. “Covington is a beautiful and historic community with much to preserve and much to offer; and I am so eager to begin.”

The public is invited to attend a city council introduction prior to their upcoming work session scheduled for August 6th.
