FlySense To Be Installed At CHS

Covington, VA (Sept. 5, 2019) - Pictured are Vicki Dooley, Guidance Counselor at Covington High School and member of the Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth Coalition and Chelsea Dunaway, Prevention Coordinator at Alleghany Highlands Community Services as well as chair of the Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth Coalition.

Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) Prevention program in conjunction with the Alleghany Healthy Youth Coalition have recently purchased an amazing prevention tool for one of our local high schools. Covington High School will soon be installing the FlySense™, the real-time vape detection™ solution which gives school administration control of areas where cameras cannot be placed. The multi-sensor devices are capable of detecting vaping, smoke, and noise disturbances that may suggest violence such as bullying. School administration are notified by real-time text and email alerts when FlySense detects an environmental disturbance. School administration and students feel this system will be a deterrent to students using substances in the school building and decrease instances of bullying when school personnel are not present.

Covington High School also participates in Tobacco School which is a program offered by AHCS Prevention Services. Tobacco School is an opportunity for students to learn more about the negative health effects of cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and e-cigarettes. Tobacco School is offered to both Covington and Alleghany School systems for students in middle school and high school.
