Hidden Valley campsites to remain open until December

BATH COUNTY, VA (September 10, 2019) - The official arrival of Fall is only a few weeks away. Along with the seasonal changes, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests officials are preparing for campground and recreation site closures. Campground closings or adjustment in facility services vary widely across the Forests, with a few campgrounds on Lake Moomaw already closed.

Lake Moomaw campsites managed by Royal Elk Park Management, Inc., began seasonal closures Sept. 8, 2019. Campgrounds and facilities that remain open are:

 McClintic Point Campground – Facility will stay open until December 1, 2019

ï‚· Blowing Springs Campground - Facility will stay open until December 1, 2019

 Fortney Branch Boat Launch – Facility will remain open year-round.

 Bolar Marina Boat Launch – Facility will remain open year-round. Limited restroom

facilities available through September.

According to James River and Warm Spring District Ranger Elizabeth McNichols, in light of the early closer of Lake Moomaw, the district managed campground at Hidden Valley Recreation Area will remain open until December. “Hidden Valley Recreation Area near the Jackson River offers year-round, day-use with bathroom facilities, and 20 miles of trails and native trout fishing. The area is also a popular hunting destination for autumn game.â€

While visiting Hidden Valley, stop by the historic Civil War site and mansion. Movie buffs will recognize the area as the setting for the movie Somersby.
