Holly Peters, the Alleghany Highlands 71st Christmas Mother

Holly Peters Is Alleghany Highlands Christmas Mother

Covington, VA (Oct. 11, 2019) - Holly Peters has been named the 71st Alleghany Highlands Christmas Mother and has established the theme of this year's effort: “Have the Love of Christ in Your Heart.”

The retired local educator worked with both Alleghany County and Covington public schools for 33 years.

"I am honored to serve the community as the 2019 Christmas Mother. At Christmas, we witness all around us the joy of families celebrating the Christmas season. As we prepare to relive the birth of Christ, we encourage unity by assisting those in need at this joyous time of year," Peters remarked.

The Covington High School and Radford University graduate continued, "Community participation is crucial to make this program successful. Your contributions allow the program to continue to serve the growing number of families in need in the Alleghany Highlands. As in previous years, we hope to provide each family with a variety of food items for their Christmas Day celebration, as well as new outfit and toy for children under the age of 12. Teenagers will be provided with a special teen pack. Needed household items will also be provided as funding allows."

The Christmas Mother program can use your assistance in any of the following areas:

• Adopt – In past years, many organizations have been a major help by adopting one or more families and providing requested items for them.

• Volunteer – This program could not function without many volunteers who give their time and we invite you to volunteer, observe and experience in person what this program is truly about.

• Donate items – Items such as paper products, cleaning supplies, personal care items, diapers, etc., new or gently used children’s toys, clothing, coats, school supplies, canned and non-perishable food items are needed; however, adult clothing & shoes cannot be accepted due to space limitations; stuffed animals cannot be accepted due to children’s allergies. Please do not wrap the donated items.

• Monetary donations – If you would prefer to make a monetary contribution, please mail those to Highlands Christmas Mother, Inc., P. O. Box 242, Covington, VA 24426.
