The three-person team of “TRiO Works” was the second place winner in “Miles for Meals”, a six-week long event hosted by Dabney S. Lancaster Community College to fight food insecurity on campus. Carol Conner, Holly Hall and Noreen Mitchell (from left) walked a total of 695.23 miles, placing just behind the “Pavement Pounders”, a team made up of Nancy Mathias, Lee Ann Bowling-Angle and Tina Dressler, who defended their title by winning the competition two years in a row, with 714.97 miles walked. Third place was “Road Scholars”, which included Robert Short, Tondalaya Van Lear and Richard Watkins, who walked 659.58 miles. According to Matt McGraw, who chaired this year’s event, there were 39 participants on 13 different teams who walked a total of 6,400 miles and collected over 200 bags of food. The top individual performers were Nancy Mathias, with 366.47 miles; Lee Ann Bowling-Angle, 295.86 miles; and Robert Short, with 277.33 miles. This was the second year for “Miles for Meals”, which promotes employee health and wellness at DSLCC and supports the Roadrunner Cubby Closet, the College’s food pantry located in the DSLCC Armory on the Clifton Forge campus.
