Covington Closes Schools For Feb. 7, 2020 Due To Possible Threat

 
Covington, VA (Feb. 7, 2020) - Covington, VA (Feb. 06, 2020) – Covington Police Chief / Public Safety director, Christopher J. Smith, this evening (Feb. 6, 2020) spoke with the City of Covington’s Superintendent of Schools regarding an unsubstantiated threat that was sent to a Covington student.

Since the situation began towards the end of the school day, the investigation has been ongoing. The Alleghany County and City of Covington Schools are treating this as a credible threat and have decided to close schools tomorrow Feb. 7, 2020 until this matter can be resolved. There has been a concerted coordination amongst our law enforcement community and schools officials to ascertain the information necessary to close this investigation.
