Covington Organizations Come Together to
Respond to COVID-19 Pandemic

Covington, VA. (March 23, 2020) — COVID-19, an unprecedented national emergency, is increasing rapidly in communities across the country. These Covington organizations have partnered to provide assistance to the individuals and families that are homebound and have no way of getting food or other necessary items: The Salvation Army, City of Covington and Covington Police Department, Alleghany county and the Allegany County Sheriff’s department, Clifton Forge Police Department, League of Older Adults, Alleghany Chamber of Commerce, and Mountaineer Minuteman Militia.

“Over the last few days, our agencies have been getting many requests for food. We have decided to work together and coordinate our efforts to target those seniors and homebound individuals who need our help the most,” said Major George Hackbarth from The Salvation Army of Covington.

The Salvation Army will act as a clearinghouse for seniors and single parents with children who are homebound and who need assistance. They can be reached by calling 540-962-6206. The Mountaineer Minutemen Militia, who will have appropriate identification, will deliver the necessary items to those who qualify. In addition, donations are needed to meet the growing demand for toilet paper, paper towels, adult diapers, hand sanitizers, non-perishable food, and cleaning supplies. Donation bins for those items are at these drop-off locations:
