Feeding Southwest Virginia Presents Gift Cards to Alleghany Co., Cov. Schools From Kroger, Food Lion Donations

Salem, VA (March 25, 2020) - On March 26 at 9 am in front of Covington High School, Feeding Southwest Virginia will present Alleghany County and Covington School Systems each with 900 gift cards generously donated by Kroger and Food Lion. The gift cards are designed to supplement the school systems feeding program during the COVID 19 school closings and help the families not just the children. Eligible families will receive 1 gift card per child to assist with food or other grocery needs. Feeding Southwest Virginia is working with the two school systems to determine eligibility of families.

Kroger and Food Lion each donated 900 gift cards that total $40,000. Pamela Irvine, President and CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia and representatives from both Kroger and Food Lion will present this donation to Violet Paxton and Brenda Perkins who are Nutrition Supervisors for the school systems

“We are excited to work with both Alleghany Highlands School System and Covington School System in this first time and unique partnership. We are so grateful to both Kroger and Food Lion for seeing the food insecurity in this area and stepping up to help," said Pamela Irvine.
