New IST Program Head at DSLCC

Tamra Lipscomb Named New IST Program Head at DSLCC

Clifton Forge, VA (Maya 26, 2020) - Tamra Lipscomb of Lexington, former director of the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista and former director of DSLCC Technical Services, is returning to DSLCC as the Information Systems Technology (IST) Program Head, it was announced recently by Dr. Benjamin Worth, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

“Ms. Lipscomb is no stranger to DSLCC,” noted Dr. Worth. “In her most recent position as a Career and Technical Education teacher at Parry McCluer High School in Buena Vista, she taught dual enrollment classes for DSLCC. She has served as an adjunct instructor to the IST Program for many years. She was DSLCC’s Director of Technical Service, and, before that, as the Director of the RRC.”

“I am super excited to work with the students at DSLCC to prepare them for a career in IT,” commented Ms. Lipscomb. “Many jobs go unfilled each year because there are not enough skilled people in the workforce. I look forward to working with local businesses to understand their needs and be sure that our program is filling those needs.”

Ms. Lipscomb said she will work with area high schools to continue to offer dual enrollment courses, which accelerate learning for motivated students who want to obtain a degree and go to work in a shorter time frame.

“IT skills are in high demand and this pandemic is proof that those with the proper skill set can work from anywhere as long as they have an Internet connection and a computer,” she added.

Prior to her career in education, Ms. Lipscomb worked in the private sector, holding IT and project management positions for various businesses in northern Virginia including Vitro Corporation, GTE Government Systems, and AT&T Solutions.

She holds an M.B.A and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Strayer University and an A.A.S. in Computer Information Systems from Northern Virginia Community College.
