CHS Issues Statement on the Safe Return to Athletics and Activities
Per the Covington City Public Schools Athletic Advisory Committee

Covington, VA (June 16, 2020) - Covington High School has given careful consideration to the guidelines and restrictions set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, the Virginia Department of Health, the Virginia Department of Education, and the National Federation of State High School Associations regarding the worldwide pandemic of the Novel Coronavirus, COVID-19.

The governing body for Covington High School’s athletic programs, and all public high school athletic programs in the state of Virginia, is the Virginia High School League. This organization will be providing sport-specific guidelines for Virginia schools and athletic departments after the Executive Committee meets on June 25, 2020.

Following the release of these guidelines, Covington High School will finalize its policies and procedures regarding the safe return to athletics and activities. At the conclusion of this process, student-athletes and coaches will be able to begin out-of-season conditioning and workouts at a later date once this process is complete.

The safety and well-being of all involved is the top priority of the Covington High School Athletic Department. Further information will be released once the VHSL provides detailed sports-specific guidance to schools on the safe return to out-of-season conditioning for sports. "Covington High School would like to thank the community for its support and patience as the safe return to athletics and activities is implemented," said Athletic Director Charity Hale.

Covington High School is a member school of the Virginia High School League.
