UPDATED: Covington City Council Meets Tuesday, Nov. 3: Called Meeting & Work Session

 
Covington, VA (Oct. 29, 2020) - There will be a Called Meeting of the Council for the City of Covington on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020, AT 5:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 333 W. Locust Street, Covington, Virginia.

The purpose of said meeting is as follows:

1. To consider Draft Ordinance A-20-13 regarding Amending and Reenacting Certain Sections of Appendix A, Subdivisions, of the Code of the City of Covington.

2. To consider Draft Ordinance A-20-14 regarding Amending and Reenacting Certain Sections of Appendix B, Zoning, of the Code of the City of Covington, and to Repeal Chapter 36, Signs.

3. To consider Draft Ordinance O-20-15 regarding Amending and Reenacting Chapter 8, Buildings, by Adopting Article V, Spot Blight Abatement, to the Code of the City of Covington.

4. To do any and all things necessary and proper to accomplish the above.

     1. To consider one appointment to the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board: Lisa Hicks will rotate off after serving three consecutive terms, with her term set to expire on December 31, 2020.

2. To consider Appropriation Resolution R-20-35 regarding CARES Act Funding

received for Covington City Schools; Total: $457,000.00.

• CLOSED SESSION

     1. To hold a closed session pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act Sec. 2.2-3711 (A)(8) of the Code of Virginia for consultation with legal counsel related to specific legal matters related to potential city liability due to lack of proper amount of city staff.

2. To hold a closed session pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act

Sec. 2.2-3711 (A)(3) of the Code of Virginia for a discussion regarding the acquisition of real property for a public purpose where discussion in public would adversely affect the bargaining position of the City.

3. To hold a closed session pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act

Sec. 2.2-3711 (A)(7) of the Code of Virginia for consultation with legal counsel

related to possible litigation.
