AHS Principal Notes JRTC Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 Closure

Valley Ridge, VA (Oct. 29, 2020) - Editor's note: and here is another note from AHS principal Dwayne Ross sent this afternoon:

"Subject: JRTC will be closed again in Friday, October 30, 2020 and re-open on Monday, November 2, 2020

"Good Afternoon Everyone,

Alleghany High School was informed late in the evening on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case for a staff member at Jackson River Technical Center (JRTC). Students, faculty, and staff did not report to JRTC on October 29, 2020, in order to allow the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to conduct thorough contact tracing. Based on continued guidance from the VDH, the administrations of Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Schools, and JRTC have collectively decided that JRTC will reopen on Monday, November 2, 2020; therefore, students will not report to JRTC tomorrow, Friday, October 30. Please be advised that students are to report to Alleghany High School for classes as normal, but JRTC is closed with instruction occurring remotely/virtually from the technical center that day. Again, students must work virtually for their JRTC classes on Friday, October 30th. Presently, the VDH is continuing with contact tracing, and the JRTC custodial and maintenance staff are continuing to deep clean the facility.

Alleghany High School will remain open on Friday, October 30, and will operate on its normal schedule. JRTC students will report, as they did on Thursday, October 29, to the cafeteria in the morning after homeroom or tomorrow afternoon based on their schedules. Students who have a morning JRTC class - 4th block, since it is Friday - may report directly to their afternoon class at the high school at 11:45 AM. Students who have an afternoon JRTC class - 3rd block - may check out in the main office after their morning class with a parent note. Please know that Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Schools, and JRTC take the safety of students and staff very seriously, and we make all decisions with safety being a top priority."

Thank you and have a great afternoon,

Dwayne Ross
