Alleghany County Public Schools Moves to 100% Virtual Classes

Low Moor, VA (Nov. 13, 2020) - Alleghany County Public Schools (ACPS), along with other districts in the region, has recently experienced a substantial increase in COVID-19 cases.  Out of safety and supported guidance from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), ACPS will operate on a 100% virtual/remote learning schedule beginning Monday, November 16 through Tuesday, November 24.

Schools will resume in-person instruction on the established hybrid/blended learning plan on Monday, November 30.  Be advised that schools are closed fully, with no instruction, on Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Twelve month employees will report November 16 through November 24.  Various other essential employees may be contacted directly by their supervisors in regards to any placements, hours, and/or days during this remote/virtual learning time.  Again, no students will attend school, as ALL learning will be done 100% virtually/remotely.

Report cards, which were to be distributed the week of November 16, will now be distributed the week of November 30 once in-person instruction resumes on the hybrid/blended learning model.  If parents and/or students want to view grades, they can access their PowerSchool accounts, as has been the practice.

During the remote learning period, all schools will continue to be extensively cleaned.  Food service will continue during the 100% remote learning period.  Meals are available, on a first come, first serve basis, as a grab-n-go breakfast and lunch unitized meal. Children must be present to receive a meal or parent/guardian will be required to provide the students’ names.  Meal pick up, as well as technology support, information can be found on the ACPS county webpage.

Please continue to monitor the division website, as well as other media outlets, for updates.

ACPS is appreciative of everyone’s cooperation in moving to a 100% remote/virtual plan across the district until after the holiday.  Uncertain times require flexibility in order to ensure everyone’s continued safety.  Thank you for your continued support throughout the school year.
