Ross Appointed Dir. Of Secondary Instruction For Alleghany County Schools
Staunton Named Interim Principal Of Alleghany High School

 
Low Moor, VA (Jan. 6, 2021) - The Alleghany School County School Board appointed Mr. Dwayne E. Ross to serve as the Director of Secondary Instruction at its January 5, 2021 meeting. 

Mr. Ross graduated from Alleghany High School in 1988.   He received his bachelor’s degree in History from Virginia Military Institute in 1992.   Mr. Ross furthered his education and received his master’s degree in Administration and Supervision PK-12 from James Madison University in 2002. 

Mr. Ross served as the Director of Alternative Education from August 1992 until June 2002.  He then became assistant principal at Alleghany High School until October 2014 when he was appointed as principal and has remained in that position until now. 

When asked about his appointment, Mr. Ross stated, “I am extremely humbled and thrilled to use my passion and knowledge for education to help guide instruction for Alleghany High School and Clifton Middle School.  I am anxious to start my new journey, and I am honored that Acting Superintendent Callahan, the selection committee, and the School Board have chosen me for this new role.  I have been truly blessed to be part of the Alleghany County Community Family, and I am ready to help with the continued enhancement of the comprehensive instructional plan.” 

Speaking on the administrative change, Acting Superintendent Sherman Callahan stated, “I feel that Mr. Ross embodies what Alleghany County Public Schools means to our faculty and students. His desire for students to succeed is second to none and I feel that his experience will be of great value to our instructional program. I am truly excited for him and our school division on his appointment”.

The School Board also approved Mrs. Karen C. Staunton as Interim Principal at Alleghany High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and continued her education receiving two master’s degrees, including Educational Leadership, from Radford University. Mrs. Staunton has worked with Alleghany County Public Schools for 15 years, currently serving as an assistant principal at Alleghany High School.



Both appointments are effective January 20, 2021.
