Callaghan Elementary School Moves to 100% Virtual Classes   Low Moor, VA (Jan. 20, 2021) - Alleghany County Public Schools Division Central Office was informed today, January 19, 2021, of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among staff at Callaghan Elementary School. As a result of the contact tracing practices, Callaghan Elementary School has met the threshold of a 20% staff exposure rate in the building; therefore, it is the Virginia Department of Health’s recommendation and best practice that the Callaghan Elementary School building remain, predominantly vacant tomorrow, January 20, 2021 through February 3, 2021, with all instruction and learning turning to a 100% virtual/remote model. Be reminded that February 2 and February 3 are teacher workdays. Callaghan Elementary School students are expected to attend virtually from January 20 through February 1. Callaghan Elementary School in-person instruction will tentatively resume on February 4, 2021, on the A/B hybrid, blended model. Essential personnel and various other staff will be contacted directly by supervisors in regards to any placements, hours, and/or days during the building vacancy. Callaghan student meals will be provided for pick-up at Callaghan Elementary tomorrow and Friday between 9am and 1pm. Beginning January 20, 2021, meal deliveries will begin in the Boiling Spring and Callaghan areas in addition to meal pick-up at school. Grab-n-go meals will be provided to all children age 18 and under at the following locations on Monday, Wednesday and Friday through February 1st . Each child will receive 2 breakfast and 2 lunch unitized meals. If children aren’t present, name of parent/guardian and all children receiving meals must be provided.
