Covington City Council Sets Tuesday Session   Covington, VA (Jan. 22, 2021) - there will be a Called Meeting of the Council for the City of Covington on TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021, AT 6:30 P.M. telecommunicated electronically from the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 333 W. Locust Street, Covington, Virginia. Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus health emergency and pursuant to Chapter 1283 of the 2020 Acts of Assembly, the Covington City Council will convene electronically to transact the business statutorily required or necessary to continue the operations of the City. The public is encouraged to participate in the public meetings by sending any comments they may have to Rebecca Scott, Clerk to City Council, by emailing her atĀ bscott@covington.va.us. The meeting is open to the public for viewing on the Zoom platform atĀ  https://zoom.us/j/93672937897. The purpose of said meeting is as follows: 1. To consider amending the charter for the City of Covington by removing unnecessary language referencing the City School Board to help facilitate the consolidation of the school districts of the City of Covington and Alleghany County and sets out the salary for a school board member of such consolidated school district with an effective date of July 1, 2022, provided that the consolidation of the Covington and Alleghany school divisions is approved by the Board of Education prior thereto. 2. To do any and all things necessary and proper to accomplish the above.
