April Is Cleanup Month Here LETTER TO THE EDITOR   Covington, VA (March 31, 2021) - Dear Clubs, Organizations, Businesses, Churches and Families of the Alleghany Highlands: The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and the Covington Woman’s Club, requests your organization’s participation in Clean-up Month in the Alleghany Highlands this April. April has been designated community clean up the month in the Alleghany Highlands by the four local governing bodies through the signing of a proclamation on March 11th. As a result, we are asking each resident to clean up at least one bag of litter during the month of April and specifically, the week of April 11-17. Clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, and families are encouraged to select an area or section of roadway for cleanup and to report that location to the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism. We also encourage you to take a picture of the area that has been cleaned so that the Chamber can post this information on its social media channels and promote overall clean-up efforts in the region. Please email the photos to Josh Taylor at jtaylor@ahchamber.com. The Chamber also has Virginia Department of Transportation orange trash bags that may be used for pick up. When full, these bags can be placed on the side of the road and VDOT will pick them up. All you have to do is contact VDOT at 540-965-5860 to let them know where the orange bags are located. We ask that your club or organization partner with us to help make the Alleghany Highlands a cleaner place for all that call it home and for all that love to visit and enjoy the region’s many wonderful amenities. The Alleghany Highlands has many organizations and civic groups that are active within the community, and with your help, we can all work together to keep our region litter-free!
