Clifton Forge, VA (April 9, 2021) - Dabney S. Lancaster Community College recently hosted two days of food pick-ups, handing out dozens of boxes of non-perishable foods to any DSLCC student, regardless of income, in an effort to fight food insecurity, particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The drive-through project, coordinated by the DSLCC Community Outreach Committee, received a number of donations, including 200 complete food boxes from Feeding Southwest Virginia, and also to either monetary or food donations from the Covington Rotary Club, Lone Star Baptist Church, and DSLCC faculty and staff. Helping with the distribution on the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge on March 31 were DSLCC staff members (pictured, from left) Anne Courtney, College Success Coach; Deidre Wolfe, Business Manager; President Dr. John Rainone; LaShonda Ochieng, Academic Affairs Administrative Assistant; and Jenny Wright, AP220 Project Director. Volunteers who assisted at the DSLCC Rockbridge Center in Buena Vista on March 30 included Dr. James Cook, Dr. Ben Worth, Tamra Lipscomb, Adam Hall, Anne Courtney and DSLCC Foundation Board Member Dr. Kathy Bogacz. Wright said that since not all of the boxes were distributed, there will be additional food pick-ups scheduled in the future. The donations also helped to restock the DSLCC Cubby Closet, a food bank located on the main campus.
