Thanks For Declaring April As Cleanup Month
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, Alleghany Journal:

The Covington Woman’s Club appreciates the four local governing bodies, The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, The Clifton Forge Town Council, Covington City, and The Town of Iron Gate, declaring April as cleanup month. We are also grateful to the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for serving as our partner in the clean up month effort.

Over 450 trash bags were given out to individuals, groups, and organizations! We wish to thank everyone who picked up trash and everyone who has disposed of trash in the proper manner! The Falling Spring Ruritan Club picked up 78 bags of trash. Ingevity picked up 69 bags on Earth Day. Additionally, The Alleghany County Sheriff"s Office and Regional Jail supervised the inmate work crew in cleaning up 8060 pounds of trash and 118 tires along a stretch of road on Dolly Ann.

We’re fortunate to live in a caring community and it is wonderful that everyone one worked so hard using their free time to clean up. Let's keep the Alleghany Highlands a beautiful place to live, work, and play!

You do not need to wait until cleanup month to clean up. You can clean up trash and litter any time! As a reminder, you can get large orange trash bags from the Chamber of Commerce at any time. They also have trash pick up sticks, provided by Ingevity, that they will loan you to use.

Please keep the area clean! Let’s make the Alleghany Highlands the cleanest place in the state of Virginia! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if next year we did not need cleanup month because everything was so pristine?

Sincerely,

Nancy M. Moga
