By Jerry E. Clark

Covington, VA (Jan. 10, 2022) - The Covington School Board was a relatively brief session tonight, with the board approving some policy motions dealing with the upcoming school merger, some proposed regulations for Alleghany Highlands Public Schools (TBD #!, #@ and #4), policy merger items, its own code of ethics (deleting the term VVSA) and taking stock of a proposed 2022-2023 school calendar.

Fred Vaughan of the Alleghany Co. School Division, showed up to briefly explain his work in cooperation with Sup. Snead-Johnson with respect to policy considerations and offered to answer any questions with respect to retirement policy.

Melinda Snead-Johnson updated the board on the system's new driver's education car (and thanked Wrightway Motors for its cooperation), noted the ADM of the system was currently 919 (not much of a change in the past month), briefly touched on the Virginia High School League and how the system is planning to approach the possibility of some joint sports activities this next year. She also welcomed new Communications Specialist, Darrell Gleason and thanked Finance Director Rebecca Irvine for her work on the Board Docs system.

The school board presented some gifts to its various principals in honor of Principal Appreciation Week.
