Forest Service Announces Bolar Flats Day Use Area at Lake Moomaw Closed for Public Health and Safety   Hot Springs, VA, May 23, 2022 — Recent heavy storms damaged the Bolar Flat marina dock at the north end of Lake Moomaw in Bath County. The day use area, including the dock and boat launch, are closed for public health and safety until further notice. Boaters on Lake Moomaw are cautioned to avoid approaching the marina from the lakeside. Boaters should access Lake Moomaw from the Fortney Branch boat launch on the south side. Preliminary findings indicate at least one mooring cable that connected the dock snapped. Forest Service staff are working to secure the slip portion from drifting further afield and creating a boating hazard. The Forest Service does not have an estimate at this time of how long it will take to secure the facilities. “Public safety is always our first priority.
