Coleman Gets 30 Years For Murder Of Shannon Clark
From Ann Gardner, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Alleghany County, Virginia

Covington, VA (May 23, 2022) - On May 23, 2022, Deborah Anne Coleman, 42, of Clifton Forge, Virginia was sentenced in the Alleghany County Circuit Court to 30 years in the penitentiary with12 years suspended for the felony murder of Shannon Anthony Clark. The court imposed the 18 year active sentence after hearing from Clark’s family who testified how the homicide impacted them.

Coleman admitted that she thought Clark was in medical distress. Instead of calling emergency services, Coleman injected Clark with two large shots of “ice” (a street term for methamphetamine) that Coleman mixed up herself. Clark’s cause of death was found to be acute methamphetamine and fentanyl toxicity.

Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Shaun Mabry prosecuted the case, which the Clifton Forge Police Department investigated with the assistance of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police. Mabry argued that “methamphetamine is a scourge on our community” and that this case is “the archetype of the dangers of meth.”
