Covington High School Cougars Reunite

Covington, VA (May 25, 2022) - The weekend of September 30th and October. 1st, Olde Town Covington, Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society and the Alleghany Historical Society will join forces with the City of Covington to celebrate the 110th birthday of Covington High School and the closing of CHS as they merge with Alleghany High School and CHS becomes Covington Middle School.

October 1st, OTC will be hosting an “all classes” reunion at Casey Field from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lots of exciting events are being planned starting with former members of CHS playing and marching to “Onward Cougars” at Friday night's football game. Get out that instrument and start practicing. All marching twirlers and flaggers, get on board

We are planning a “picnic “environment for food. Bring your own lunch or, for you out-of-towners who don’t choose to pack a lunch, we will have local food trucks available. A good way to support our local economy. Handicap access will be made possible for those who have a need.

Put your dancing shoes on because we will be providing music from decades of school years. Maybe we will start with Glen Miller's “In the Mood” - one of my favorites. To make it even more in keeping with the different genertions, dig out those poodle skirts and white t-shirts or the clothes you wore. Notihing would be better than lots of letter sweaters and folks sporting the blue and gold colors.

VFW Post 1033 will be doing a short program to honor all veterans past and present. We have had a lot over the years. We salute them all.

We will have a memorium box for classmates that have passed away. We are making the box available for those of you who might want to honor anyone with an old picture you might wish to share. Unfortunately, no photos will be returned via mail. You can, however, designate on registration form if you would like to pick up your photo at our OTC office or donate to genealogical society. We will have envelopes with registration information. Photos will be compiled into montage and shared via social media (duplicates are fine).

The City of Covington is planning to celebrate the CHS birthday on Friday, September 30th prior to Cougar football game against Grayson. The City will provide details as they become available

Updates will be made available as we go along. If you have any questions, please contact any of our committee members: Julie Tucker Stanley (OTC) at julie@oldetowncovington.com, Susan Scott Crowder thru FB messenger, Donna Miller-Dressler (Genealogical Society) thru FB messenger, Linda Jones Morrison (Historical Society) at lmorrison20@gmail.com or Marian Paxton (Historical Society) at marianpaxton@gmail.com.

No party would be complete without giveaways. Stay tuned for future updates. We will also be selling a souvenir Christmas ornament to help us never forget this very special event remmbering our beloved Covington High School Courgars.
