YMCA's 'After Prom Party' Huge Success
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (May 4, 2025)— Following last night's Alleghany High School (AHS) prom, the YMCA, located at 101 YMCA Way in Covington near Love's gas station, held an "After Prom Party." The event ran from 11 p.m.—2 a.m.
In the front lobby, several tables were set up giving students the opportunity to sign up for various door prizes given out throughout the evening. There was also a buffet of food and drinks for the promgoers to snack on which included drinks, potato chips, pizza, hot dogs, and more.
On the basketball court, students took turns "surfing" on a mechanical surfboard, some played cornhole, and others showed off their basketball skills on the opposite side of the emerald green divider.
Meanwhile, in the Aquatics Center, some students took advantage of the open pool and hot tub. The Journal spoke with Wellness Director Matthew Clayton who explained the "mechanics" of a floatable "mechanical bull." On the sides, Clayton explained, there are handles which enable swimmers to grab hold of and shake the bull from all sides in an attempt to overthrow the bull rider.
The exercise/yoga room contained bean bags, chairs, and cozy couches which one staff member called "The Chill Room." While some students opted to enjoy the more intimate setting of the low-lit "Chill Room," others took advantage of the right side of the lobby where they ate, conversed, and enjoyed one of their last nights together before graduation in a few weeks.
The crowded "After Prom Party" at the YMCA proved to us that it was the perfect place to be following a long night of dancing. | |
