'Burnouts for a Cause' Raises Over $9,000 Plus Truckload of Supplies for Alleghany Humane Society
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (June 22, 2025)— When a passion for cars meets the spirit of giving, amazing things can happen. That's just what occurred over the weekend when several sponsors got together to create "Burnouts for a Cause," a car show and burnout competition created to raise money for the Alleghany Humane Society.
On Saturday, June 21, the event took place at Covington Moose Park, located just behind the Covington Moose Lodge at 414 Moose Park Road in Covington. It boasted a car show with nearly 250 cars, 50/50 raffles, a Chinese auction, several awards and cash giveaways, bouncy houses, and a burnout competition that began promptly at 12:30 p.m.
The Journal reached out to two of its organizers: Andy Craft and John Bush, to obtain additional information about the successful fundraiser. "As of right now," said Bush, "we're at $9,307.00 and we have several donations coming in to us the next couple of days." Craft added they had dropped off a truckload of supplies to the Alleghany Humane Society brought in by those who'd registered their cars.
"They bum rushed us," Craft said, noting the huge crowd that arrived at the popular fundraiser. The large gathering not only revved up engines for the burnout competition, but also revved up several hearts, proving that when people unite for a common cause, they can make a real difference in the lives of animals in need. | |
