Updated: Pelter Charged With Taking Indecent Liberties With Children

| Covington, VA (August 7, 2025) - The suspect from the August 6, 2025 WalMart incident, Darryl L. Pelter, now has charges modified to two counts of §18.2-370 (Taking indecent liberties with children.)
These charges are a Class 5 felony, and could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a $2,500 fine for each charge.
Pelter is currently being held at the Alleghany Regional Jail without bond, and is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment sometime next week.

"On August 6, 2025, at approximately 3:41 pm, the Covington Division of Police responded to a call at 313 W. Thacker Ave. (Wal-Mart) for a complaint of an individual who exposed himself to two juveniles. Officer’s conducted an investigation and were able to obtained evidence that supported the victim’s allegations.
The suspect was identified as Darryl L. Pelter, who resides in the City of Covington. He is 5’10, and approximately 200lbs with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Pelter has a long white beard and was wearing a blue collared shirt, camouflage shorts and a black & white baseball cap. Pelter is a registered sex offender, and was last seen at the Quality Inn motel on Main Street. He is currently wanted for two counts of 18.2-387 (Indecent Exposure.)
