Rockbridge County Native Was Longtime LPN

Mary Catherine Bane McCormick died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at her home after a short but difficult battle with cancer.

Born August 13, 1937 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late James Allen Bane and Nellie Gracie Davis Bane.

She married the love of her life, Jackie Ray McCormick, on November 29, 1956.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Helmick; two brothers, James Bane and Frank Bane; and one sister, Thelma Higgins. She was also predeceased by two sons-in-law, W. Dana Helmick and Matthew Wilmer and one daughter-in-law, Tracy McCormick Vess.

Mary was a retired LPN and enjoyed working at various locations throughout the years. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother always full of love and happiness. She brought joy to everyone she met and will be missed desperately.

In addition to her husband, surviving are her children, Catherine McCormick, Jeffrey McCormick, Molly Crowder (Steve), John McCormick (Heather) and Candice Wilmer; grandchildren, Jacob McCormick, Justin Crowder, Jessica Ferguson (Travis), Taylor Crowder, Dylan Wilmer, Jenna Golden, Trevor Golden, Jamie Ingram, Jasmin McCormick, William Wilmer, Mary Jane Ingram, Ella Gibson and Audree McCormick; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Olivia Ferguson; sisters, Mildred Gayhart, Peggy McCormick and Bessie Bane; one special sister-in-law, Debbie Knick; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Harrison Funeral Chapel by Pastor Brandon McClung. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
