Alleghany County School System Retiree Dies At Age 83

Josephine Bowles Morris, 83, of 418 Brentwood Drive, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, January 5, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Morris was born November 5, 1936 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late William Mason and Edna Smith Bowles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters.

She retired from the Alleghany County School System at Mountain View Elementary School, but spent 40 years at the former Central Elementary School.

She loved bowling and bingo and enjoyed playing cards at the YMCA.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Jessie Morris of Covington; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph "Frank" and Tracey Morris of Clifton Forge; her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Dennis Brown of Covington; five grandchildren, Charlie Brown of Vinton; Brandon Morris of Clifton Forge; Tyler Morris of Covington; Joshua Howard of Staunton and Matthew Howard of Mobile, AL; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Reese officiating assisted by Rev. H. Ray Tucker.

Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations in her name be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 1105 Richmond St., Selma, VA 24474 or to the Selma Church of the Brethren, Selma, VA 24474.
