Obituary for James Carl Burr, Jr. James Carl Burr, Jr.
White Sulphur Springs Resident Was Longtime Mason, Burr Service Station Owner

James Carl Burr, Jr., 88, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia went home to his Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.

James was born September 5, 1931 in White Sulphur Springs, the son of the late James Carl and Ruth Thompson Burr, Sr.

He was a graduate of White Sulphur Springs High School, Greenbrier Military School and was a graduate from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree.

While a student at WVU he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

James was a U. S. Army veteran, was the owner and operator of Burr Service Station for 42 years, past president and a Paul Harris Fellow with the White Sulphur Springs Rotary Club, and was a master mason with the Allegheny Lodge # 136. James was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where he held various offices.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Those left to cherish his fond memories are his wife of 65 years, Anita L. "Kitten" Schooley Burr; daughters, Ruth B. Miller and husband, R. J. and Anita B. Butts and husband, Donald; son, James C. Burr, III and his wife, Cathy; brother, Charles Burr and his wife, Shelva, all of White Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Robert James Miller (Melissa), Charles Clifton Miller (Kathy), Joseph Ryan Miller (Christina), Lt. James C. Burr, IV, MD (Dr. Kennedy), Margaret O. Butts and Allison L. Butts; six great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

James' service will be Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Pastors Steve Grimes, Stewart Farley and Bobby McClintic officiating. Interment will take place at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg following a meal at the church.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the church from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
