Obituary for John Robert Bolen John Robert Bolen
Bustleburg Resident Dies At Age 53

John Robert Bolen, 53, of Bustleburg, Virginia died Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Augusta Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1966, John suffered his stroke on January 5, 2017, three years and two days ago. He fought hard, made tremendous progress, never gave up, but the obstacles were too great to overcome. With all the struggles, it seems appropriate that he passed away peacefully on a quiet, beautiful, snowy morning.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bobby and Violet Bolen.

John had a distinct and unique personality. He loved life and people, rarely meeting a stranger. He enjoyed auctions, yard sales, collecting. What we saw as junk, he saw as treasure. John became involved with dirt track racing and loved his racing family, some of whom he considered his best friends.

Surviving are his children, Amber and Lucas; brother, Hugh; and his only uncle, Bob Toman (Betty Hamilton).

John is also survived by his fiance, Deborah Stoner. Deborah is a special and exceptional person. They had their ups and downs, but love and trust kept them together. John knew how lucky he was to have her. If only everyone could be so fortunate. With her, everything is done from the heart. No need for praise or thanks. She was there at the beginning and the end.

A special thanks to three great caregivers, Toni, Kathy and Rebecca. Thanks to Dr. Baroco, Sarah, and the second floor nursing staff at Augusta Health. John had so many special friends that it's impossible to name everyone. Just know he loved you. Also many cousins and other relatives that he loved.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 13 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Brother Toney Henson officiating. Burial will be at McElwee Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450 or Hospice of the Shenandoah, 78 Medical Center Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
