He is survived by five nieces: Kristin, Whitney, Jamie, Kara and Jennifer and three nephews: Jason, Adam, and Joshua, and many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his father, William Lee Whanger.

Carter Whanger; and maternal grandparents, Madison Boyd Wylie and Samary Elizabeth Myers Wylie. Stephen is also predeceased by one aunt and three uncles: Marguerite Jane Wylie Booska, Madison Boyd Wylie, Jr., Ned Wilburn Wylie, and Sonne Charles Wylie.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in White Sulphur Springs on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg.
