Obituary for Emory (Red) Wilson Bowyer Jr. Emory (Red) Wilson Bowyer Jr.
Decorated Korean War Veteran Worked With The U. S. Postal Service

Emory (Red) Wilson Bowyer Jr., 90, of Lexington, Virginia died Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

He was born June 3, 1929 in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Emory Wilson Bowyer Sr. and Carrie McGuffin Bowyer.

Red proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and was awarded both Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals for his service in the Korean War.

He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and was also a long-time member of the Sam Houston Ruritan Club. Friends and family will miss his warm nature and quick wit.

He was preceded in death by a son, Byron M. Bowyer; three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth McCurdy Bowyer; daughters, Carolyn B. Warren (Joel) and Tina M. Bowyer; two grandchildren, Travis L. Moore and Marcus A. Moore; and three great-grandchildren, Emery Moore, Landon Moore and Abigail Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 15 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. J. Michael Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Manly Memorial Baptist Church, 202 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450.
