Obituary for Roy William (Butch) Stevens Roy William (Butch) Stevens
Rhode Island Native Served As Lexington VFW Post 1499

Roy William (Butch) Stevens, 72, of Fairfield, Virginia died peacefully Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.

Born May 2, 1947 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Homer Adam Stevens and Mary White Stevens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Donnamarie Stevens and Gail P. Silvia.

Roy served his country in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969, and also owned and operated Monson General Store in Monson, Maine. He was an independent contractor, and a master craftsman who could create anything.

He was commander of Lexington VFW Post 1499, and a great storyteller, who never met a stranger.

Roy loved his family and was most proud to be a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Lorie Stevens; children, Michelle K. Stevens of Monson, Maine, and Roy W. Stevens Jr. of Laconia, N.H.; brother, James H. Stevens of Fairfield; sisters, Ellen R. Davis of Mt. Crawford and Charlotte V. Stevens of Warren, R.I.; four grandchildren, Zachary D. Stevens, Ryley G. Gorey, Adin G. Gorey and Ethan E. Stevens; and a great-granddaughter, Brittnie D. Gorey.

A memorial service will be held at the VFW at a later date.
