Mrs. Doris (Marie) Laughorne Jamison, age 85, of Covington, Virginia went to be with Jesus and her loved ones in Heaven on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

She was the wife of the late James Ludwell "Jack" Jamison, to whom she was married for 46 years.

Mrs. Jamison was born May 17, 1934 in Covington, the daughter of the late Rader N. Laughorne and Cynthia Stinnett Laughorne.

A lifetime resident of this community, she was a 1951 graduate of Covington High School. Mrs. Jamison was a lifelong member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of Church Circle #2, a Children's Sunday School and Bible School teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a member of Little Page Sunday School Class, Garden Club and Red Hats.

She was the "First Lady of Covington" during the 19 years that her husband served as mayor. Mrs. Jamison had a green thumb and loved gardening, bird watching out of her kitchen window and participating in line dance classes. She enjoyed walking, reading good books and watching great movies. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She was very proud of her four daughters and was their cheerleader, advisor, babysitter, friend, confidante and model of living a Christian life. She was loved and cherished by her nine grandchildren. When the adults were gathered in one room, "Grammy" could be found sitting on the floor in the next room with the grandchildren, playing games and reading to them.

Mrs. Jamison is survived by three loving daughters, Karen J. Robertson and husband, Harry "Tad" of Covington, Susan J. VanLandingham and husband, Charles of Chesapeake and Jackie J. Payne and husband, Daniel of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren, Sarah Robertson MacDonald and husband, Matt, Laura Robertson, Nicole VanLandingham King and husband, Wesley, James VanLandingham, Rachel VanLandingham, Adam Payne, Nathan Payne, John Payne, and Kendall Payne; three great-grandchildren, Ethan MacDonald, Mitchell MacDonald and Jack Payne; two sisters, Kathleen L. Loan and husband Jerry of New Castle and Bonnie L. Patterson of Covington; sister-in-law, Doris Croxton; brother-in-law, Edward Landis Sr.; a special caregiver and friend, Charlene Walker, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Jamison was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" J. Casto.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be James VanLandingham, Adam Payne, Nathan Payne, Wesley King, Edward Landis Jr., Mark Landis, and Barry Jamison Jr.
