Obituary for Wayne Eben Averill Wayne Eben Averill
U. S. Navy Veteran Was Retired Smith's Transfer Truck Driver

Wayne Eben Averill, age 81, of 104 Cahoon Lane, Low Moor, Virginia died Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

He was born February 15, 1938 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late William and Alpha Black Averill.

He served in the United States Navy and was a retired truck driver for Smith Transfer.

He was a member and deacon of Low Moor Presbyterian Church and a member of the Teamsters Trucking Union.

Wayne coached little league baseball, assisted his mother at Averill's store in Low Moor for a number of years, and loved NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William "Billy" Averill and Gene "Punky" Averill.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Kelly Averill of Low Moor; two sons, Michael Averill of Clifton Forge, and Darrell Averill and wife, Marie of Buena Vista; four sisters-in-law, Sylvia Downey Averill and Doris Cronise Averill, both of Low Moor, Mary Nicely of Clifton Forge, and Juanita Kern of Covington; a granddaughter, Emily Michelle Averill of Covington; a step grandson, Christopher Fix of Buena Vista; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Lisa Marshall officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Scottie Averill, Greg Averill, David Noel, David Nicely, Rodney Broughman, and Jody Hoover. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Low Moor Presbyterian Church, 204 Old Church Road, Low Moor, Virginia 24457.
