Obituary for Joseph (Joey) Patrick Chittum Joseph (Joey) Patrick Chittum
Fairfield Resident Dies At Age 24

Joseph (Joey) Patrick Chittum, 24, of Fairfield, Virginia passed away on February 8, 2020.

He was born January 12, 1996 at Augusta Medical Center, the son of Jonathan "Johnny" and Christine "Chrissie" Mundy Chittum.

He attended Fairfield Elementary and Rockbridge Middle schools and graduated from Rockbridge County High School in 2014. He worked with his father at Allen Yoho Electrical Inc. of Lyndhurst as a commercial and industrial electrician.

At his young age, Joey left behind many close friends and relatives who love him.

He is survived by his parents, Johnny and Chrissie Chittum of Fairfield; his brother, Jonathan Chittum Jr. of Raphine; his brother-in-law and sister, Jon and Leigh Walters Kirchner of Greenwood; his paternal grandmother, Charlotte Chittum of Lexington; and his maternal grandfather, Jim Stevens of Fairfield. He is also survived by two aunts, Carol Fisher of Radford, and Terry Mundy of Buena Vista; two uncles, Timmy Chittum of Lexington, and Paul Mundy of Buena Vista; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lee Mundy of Buena Vista; paternal grandfather, Chester Chittum of Fairfield; and maternal grandmother, Kathy Mundy of Buena Vista.

He is also survived by his fiancee and partner of six years, Thristian Blair Scott of Fairfield, and her family; their two cats, Sixth Lord and Dabz; and his best friends, Billy Clark of Raphine, and Jason Kerr of Vesuvius.

Joey entered this world during a blizzard and left it by his own hand on a cold, cloudy day. Despite this, he will be lovingly remembered for the warmth of his heart and soul. He was a supportive and loving partner and brother; a dutiful and compassionate son and grandson; and a dependable, fun, and steadfast friend to everyone he knew. He enjoyed his home life, spending time in nature, and having an IPA or two in the evenings. He will be sorely missed in perpetuity by all.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington, where the service will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Buena Vista Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joey's memory to the Rockbridge SPCA at 10 Animal Place, Lexington, VA 24450 or the Wildlife Center of Virginia at 1800 S. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
