Former Boiling Spring Elementary School Principal Dies At Age 87

George Lewis (GL) Jamison Jr. of 123 W. Phillip St, Covington, Virginia passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Born in Covington, Virginia on June 25, 1932 to the late George Lewis Jamison Sr. and Leola Rose Jamison, he was 87 years of age.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by five brothers: Robert, Benny, Russell, Eugene, Murray, and his sister, Betty Joyce.

George served honorably in the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany as a military policeman. After his military service, he attended Appalachian State and graduated with a bachelors degree. Later he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating with a masters degree.

George taught at Central High School and was principal at Boiling Springs Elementary School.

He owned and operated the J-Mart restaurant and hardware store and enjoyed spending his free time hunting, fishing, gardening, and working on the family farm. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris H. Jamison; his sons: George L. Jamison III, William H. (Bill) Jamison (and wife, Joan); daughter, Joressia Jamison Beyer (and husband, Stuart); grandsons, Nathaniel Jamison, William Jamison and granddaughters, Iva Jamison, Linda Beyer and Kyla Beyer.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Pastor Deb Washer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Persinger Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George L Jamison III, William H. (Bill) Jamison, Nathaniel Jamison, William Jamison, and Stuart Beyer. Additional pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends.

The family suggests that memorial donations in George's name be made to Mountain Regional Hospice at P. O. Box 637 Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or Parrish Court United Methodist Church at 2343 S. Carpenter Dr., Covington, VA 24426.
